The best slideshow maker depends on what you need to make. For a quick video from your own photos, Google Photos, Apple Photos, iMovie or Clipchamp may already be on your device. For designed social posts, try Canva or Adobe Express; for desktop editing, Movavi Slideshow Maker; for branded business videos, Animoto; for developers, Creatomate or Shotstack. Videngine turns pages, listings and data into narrated, captioned photo slideshows in batches.
Transcript
The best slideshow maker depends on what you need to make. If your photos are already on your phone or computer, built-in tools like Google Photos, Apple Photos, iMovie, or Clipchamp may already do the job. For designed social posts, Canva and Adobe Express offer free templates, music, and MP4 export.
If you want an installed program with fine control over every slide, desktop software like Movavi Slideshow Maker runs on Windows and Mac, though the free trial watermarks output. For branded business photo videos with licensed music, Animoto offers drag-and-drop tools and tiered plans. Developers building video into their own software can use API-based tools like Creatomate or Shotstack.
And when a business needs a narrated slideshow for every listing, product, or article it publishes, an automatic batch tool reads the source and generates script, voiceover, captions, and photos together.

How we chose: each provider's own website or help pages, checked 10 October 2026, not hands-on testing. There is no overall winner, and order within a section is not a ranking.
This guide means a slideshow video maker, which makes an MP4 from photos, not a presentation deck. For generated footage, see our best AI video generators by job.
Phone and computer built-ins: Google Photos, Apple Photos, iMovie and Clipchamp
If the photos are on your phone or computer, a slideshow maker may already be installed.
Google Photos
Google Photos Help describes a highlight video as a video with music made from your photos and videos: choose Create, then Highlight video, and pick a suggested person, place or time frame, or choose the photos yourself. The Google Photos video editor lets you change the music, reorder clips and remove them.
Apple Photos and iMovie
Apple's Photos for Mac guide describes slideshow projects with a theme, text and music, either the Theme Songs included with Photos or your Music library, and a Fit to Music option. For an iMovie slideshow on iPhone, Apple's iMovie guide describes Magic Movie: choose clips and photos, and iMovie creates the movie, complete with a soundtrack and transitions.
Microsoft Clipchamp
Clipchamp's slideshow page describes photo slides with transitions, text, templates and music from a royalty-free library or your own audio. It offers an AI slideshow option, AI voiceover and 1080p HD saving, lists a Windows app and calls itself a free video editor; premium stock and audio need an upgrade.
These suit one album at a time; for a birthday or a wedding, one of them is usually enough.
Design tools: Canva and Adobe Express
Choose a design tool when a person builds each slideshow by hand and it has to look designed.
Canva
Canva's slideshow page describes picking a template, adding photos, choosing a soundtrack and downloading an MP4. It says creating a slideshow is free, with no limit and no watermark added, and offers hundreds of free music tracks, with premium music, photos and footage on Canva Pro. See our Canva comparison.
Adobe Express
Adobe Express's slideshow page says the app is free for everyone, with no credit card required. This online slideshow maker offers free templates, adjustable scene lengths, animation, text and resizing for each platform, with hundreds of Adobe Stock royalty-free soundtracks or your own music.
Check which assets are paid, and whether the fiftieth slideshow takes as long as the first.
Desktop software: Movavi Slideshow Maker
Choose desktop software when you want an installed program with fine control over each slide.
Movavi's product page describes Movavi Slideshow Maker for Windows and Mac, with a Slideshow Wizard, built-in templates and a Manual Mode for full control. It lists dozens of titles, transitions and music tracks, support for your own music, and upload to YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive.
The free download is a 7-day trial that watermarks its output and saves only half the audio length. For a Windows slideshow maker you install rather than use in a browser, this is the kind of tool to try.
Business photo videos: Animoto
Choose Animoto when a marketing team builds branded photo videos by hand and wants licensed music included.
Animoto's pricing page describes drag-and-drop tools, video templates and adding your own photos and clips. The free plan makes 720p videos with an Animoto watermark and includes 50 licensed music tracks; Basic removes the watermark and adds 1080p; Professional adds logo and colour branding, voice-over and 3,000 licensed tracks.
Our Animoto comparison sets it against Videngine for listing videos in volume.
Developer APIs: Creatomate and Shotstack
Choose a video API when your developers want to build slideshow videos into your own software.
Creatomate renders templates from its online editor with data from its API, a CSV or tools such as Zapier and Make, with a 50-credit trial; see Videngine compared with Creatomate.
Shotstack is a cloud video editing API with templates, SDKs and a free sandbox, and lists real estate and automotive listing videos among its uses; see Videngine compared with Shotstack.
Your developers design the template and handle failed renders.
Narrated slideshows from pages and data: Videngine
Videngine fits when a business needs a narrated slideshow for every listing, product or article it already publishes.
It reads a URL, a CSV or JSON row with photo URLs, or a sitemap. AI writes the script from the source; the voice is synthetic or your own audio, and captions are transcribed from the finished audio. The pictures are the source's own photos, each with a slow zoom, between title or information cards in your typefaces, colours and logo, with an optional quiet music bed.
It asks for original photos when a site serves resized copies, enlarges small ones no more than 3× and flags soft ones. A landscape photo in a 9:16 frame sits over a blurred fill of itself, so the subject is not cropped out.
Each source usually gives a 9:16 and a 16:9 cut up to 1080p. Batches run unattended and every video is reviewed before it goes out, then downloaded, sent to Google Drive or YouTube, or published back into its page on a GitHub-connected static site. Videngine is coming soon, with launch pricing from $79 a month for 50 videos and no free plan. The automatic slideshow maker guide covers batches; the slideshows overview covers the rest.
When Videngine is the wrong tool
- A slideshow set to one song: try Canva, Clipchamp or Animoto; our guide to a slideshow with music explains the difference.
- Beat-synced edits, collages or transition packs: Videngine does not make these; a hand-built editor gives that control.
- A still photo animated into new motion: that is AI image-to-video, not a slideshow.
- A birthday or a wedding: Google Photos, iMovie or Canva.
- Narration in another language: Videngine narrates in English only.
- Slideshows inside your own app: Creatomate or Shotstack.
How to choose a slideshow maker
Choose by running the same photos through two or three tools, not by comparing feature lists.
- Name the input. A phone album, a listing page and a spreadsheet row need different tools.
- Count the videos. One a month suits a hand-built tool; one per new listing each week suits batch production.
- Decide on sound: music only, narration, or narration over a quiet music bed, with a licence that covers business use.
- Test hard cases: a portrait photo in a landscape frame, a low-resolution photo, a long product name.
- Export on the plan you would buy and check resolution, watermark, aspect ratio and captions.
- Change one fact, such as a price, and time the update.
- Price the approved video, including staff time.

Questions about slideshow makers
What is the best slideshow maker in 2026?
There is no single best slideshow maker, because the tools do different jobs: Google Photos, Apple Photos or iMovie for a personal video; Canva or Adobe Express for designed slideshows; Animoto for branded business videos. Videngine builds a narrated slideshow for every listing or product, in batches, from your pages and data.
What is the best slideshow maker with music?
For photos set to a song, Canva, Adobe Express, Clipchamp and Animoto all describe music libraries, and Apple Photos can fit a slideshow to your music. Animoto's pricing page lists 50 licensed tracks free and 3,000 on Professional. Check that the licence covers business use.
Is there a free slideshow maker without a watermark?
Canva's slideshow page says creating a slideshow is free and adds no watermark, though premium music and photos need Canva Pro. Animoto's free plan and Movavi's trial both watermark their output. Most other pages we checked do not state watermark terms.
What is the best slideshow maker for Windows?
Microsoft Clipchamp lists a Windows app, calls itself a free video editor and saves in 1080p HD. Movavi Slideshow Maker installs on Windows and Mac, with a 7-day trial that watermarks its output. Canva and Adobe Express run as online editors.
Can Videngine make a slideshow set to a song?
No. Videngine makes narrated slideshows from your photos, with a script, a voiceover, captions and an optional quiet music bed. For a music-only or beat-synced slideshow, Canva, Clipchamp or Animoto is the better fit.
