Videngine vs
Animoto

Animoto is a drag-and-drop video maker: pick a template, add photos, music and text, and shape each video by hand. Videngine turns pages, listings and data into narrated, captioned photo videos, many at a time, from coded templates.

Videngine or Animoto?

If you need an Animoto alternative because every listing, product or page needs its own narrated photo video, Videngine is built for that job: it reads the source, writes the script, voices and captions it, and renders the source’s own photos into your coded template, in batches. If you want one designed slideshow set to music and edited by hand, Animoto’s templates, licensed music and free plan make it the better tool.

Deciding quickly. If a person will choose the photos, the song and the timing for each video, use Animoto. If the photos and facts already sit on hundreds of pages or rows, use Videngine.

What each one is

Animoto is a video maker you work in by hand; Videngine is an engine that works from sources you already have.

Animoto

Animoto is a browser-based video maker. You choose a template, drag in photos and clips, add text and music, then share. As a slideshow maker for business, it pitches product promotion, team celebrations and tutorials.

Its AI video maker gives a faster start: paste in the URL of a homepage, a product, a real estate listing or a blog post, and it writes a script and builds a video from the site’s text, photos and videos, which you then edit. Voiceovers are recorded or uploaded. There is a free plan, with an Animoto watermark.

Videngine

Videngine is a programmatic video engine built and run by Wall & Fifth. Give it a web page, a listing, a product or a row of CSV or JSON data and it writes a script, records the narration, transcribes captions from the finished audio and renders the source’s own photos into your brand’s coded templates. It can read your sitemap so you can pick pages to turn into videos in batches, and every video is reviewed before it goes out.

There is no timeline, no stock library and no generated footage. Videngine is launching soon; plans start at $79 a month for 50 videos.

Two ways to make a photo slideshow video

Both turn photos into video; the difference is who builds each one.

An Animoto slideshow is put together in the editor: you pick the template, the photos, the song and the words. That is the classic photo slideshow video maker, where a person shapes each video.

A Videngine slideshow is narrated. Each photo gets a slow zoom across its scene and a short fade in. A photo that doesn’t fit the frame sits over a blurred fill of itself, so a landscape listing photo works in a 9:16 vertical without cropping the subject out. Information cards can sit between photos, with an optional quiet music bed under the voice. Videngine asks for original photos where a site serves resized copies, and flags soft ones in the studio.

That makes it an automatic slideshow maker for businesses whose photos already sit on listings and product pages. The wider picture is in our guide to the AI slideshow maker for businesses.

Videngine vs Animoto, side by side

Animoto leads on music, stock, resolution and hand editing; Videngine leads on volume, narration and consistency from one video to the next.

What 250 videos a month looks like

With Animoto, 250 narrated videos means 250 projects, each built and voiced by a person; with Videngine, one batch run and a review queue.

Take an estate agency with 250 new listings this month, each needing a narrated real estate video in a vertical and a landscape cut.

StepAnimotoVidengine
Starting pointA template, or the listing’s URL pasted into the AI video makerA sitemap, a list of URLs, a CSV or a JSON payload

NarrationRecord or upload a voiceover for each video, on Professional or aboveVoiced for every video in the batch, using your pronunciation lexicon
Second shapeCopy the project, change the aspect ratio, check it and export again9:16 and 16:9 cuts from the same source; each photo framed for the format

None of these steps is hard in Animoto, and for one listing its URL-to-video draft is quick. There are just a lot of them: at 20 minutes a video, recording included, 250 videos is more than 80 hours, and each second shape is a separate project.

In Videngine, the same month runs like this:

  1. Choose the sources. Pick the 250 listing pages from your sitemap, or upload a CSV or JSON file with one row per listing.
  2. Let it write. Each page gets a script and a timed scene plan. Accept it, edit a line or supply your own.
  3. Voice and caption. Narration follows your pronunciation lexicon; captions are transcribed from the finished audio.
  4. Render. Batch jobs queue and render unattended; a one-minute 1080p video typically renders in a few minutes.
  5. Review. Approve each video in the studio; a rebuild is saved as a new version beside the original.
  6. Deliver. Download the MP4s, send them to Google Drive, queue them to YouTube or, on a static site, publish each one into its page.
Animoto
Professional plan or above

Voiceovers need Professional or above, and paid plans include unlimited downloads, so one subscription covers 250 exports. Its prices weren’t readable on its pricing page, which says annual plans save up to 50%. The larger cost is 250 videos built and voiced by hand.

Videngine Growth

Which should you choose?

Choose Animoto when a person is making one designed video with music; choose Videngine when the same narrated video has to exist for every page, listing or row.

Choose Animoto if

  • You make a few videos at a time and want to shape each one
  • The video is set to music, from a licensed library or your own track
  • You want templates, Getty stock and editing by hand
  • You want to start on a free plan, or export in 4K
  • You also need screen and webcam recording

Choose Videngine if

  • Every listing, product or page needs its own narrated video
  • The photos must come from the source, not stock
  • Names and places must be pronounced correctly
  • You want vertical and landscape cuts without rebuilding anything
  • Videos should go to YouTube or into the page they were made from

Videngine is the wrong tool for a wedding or birthday slideshow, a music-only video, a beat-synced edit or a collage. It has no free plan, narrates in English only and renders up to 1080p. For a wedding or birthday, a free phone photo app or iMovie is enough; for a music-led business video, Animoto fits better. For a wider field, see the best slideshow makers for businesses.

Questions

Is Videngine an Animoto alternative?

For making many narrated photo videos from listings, product pages or rows of data, yes: Videngine writes, voices, captions and renders each one from its source, in batches. For one designed slideshow set to music and edited by hand, Animoto is the better fit.

Is Animoto free?

Animoto has a free plan with unlimited video creation. Its help centre says every free video carries a “Made with Animoto” watermark throughout, and that downloads are a paid-plan feature. Its pricing page lists the free plan at 720p, Basic at 1080p and Professional at 4K.

Can Animoto make a video from a listing URL?

Yes. Animoto’s AI video maker takes the URL of a homepage, product, real estate listing or blog post and builds an editable video from the site’s text, photos and videos. We didn’t find a way to run a list of URLs or a spreadsheet; Videngine makes one video per page or row, in batches.

Does Animoto have AI voiceover?

Not on the pages we read. Animoto’s help centre describes recording a voiceover or uploading an mp3, AAC or m4a file, up to 8 tracks per project, on Professional and Professional Plus. Videngine writes the narration from each source and voices it in English, with a synthetic voice or your own audio.

Which is cheaper for 250 videos a month?

It depends on whose time you count. Animoto’s paid plans include unlimited downloads, but its prices weren’t readable on its pricing page, and each video is built and voiced by hand. Videngine’s Growth plan is $249 a month for 250 finished videos, with script, narration and captions included.
